Living in Diamondhead

Explore the many facets of Diamondhead Gated Community

History of Diamondhead

In 1969, Walter Utley purchased the block of land located between the 60 acre Future Farmers of America Camp, Camp Couchdale, and the Lake Catherine State Park.  The 2300 acres are divided into approximately 3500 lots.  During Utley’s initial development phase, the resort community offered riding stables, an in-house zoo, archery, golf, swimming, tennis, marina facilities and an Angler’s Lounge.

Today, Diamondhead’s amenities include 24 hour gated security, swimming pool complex, picnic pavilion, 18 hole PGA golf course, pro shop, 19th Hole, lighted tennis and basketball courts, marina, boat docks, and a children’s playground.  Neil Peterson and his family fell in love with Diamondhead and purchased the property in 1995.  Through their leadership and investments, Diamondhead now has a central sewer system and is part of the Hot Springs water supply system.

Continually investing in Diamondhead, their most recent gift to the community is a new Property Owners Association business office.  Through their sales efforts, Diamondhead continues to prosper on modest yearly membership fees.  The cost of living here is among the lowest in the country and Rand-McNally rates the Hot Springs area the third most popular retirement area in the United States.

It's like living in the small town where I grew up. It's safe to walk down the street at night and everyone is very friendly. Here you know your neighbors, and they know and support you.
