Our residents can't say enough on all the reasons they love Diamondhead Gated Community... Here are just a few excerpts from a recently recorded get together at the clubhouse...
"One of the things that I think is extremely important is that this is a lifestyle community. First of all it’s affordable living- and much more economical to live here than it is in Arizona, Florida, or California. Plus, this is not a “retirement community”, this is a full-scale community. We attract young families, particularly young executives that travel and like the idea of keeping their family inside a gated community while they’re on the road all week. We have 3 excellent school systems within this community (with bus service) so we do encourage the workforce and the young families who are looking for a good lifestyle, raising their children. We are much more than a retirement community or resort community- we run the whole gamut, and I think that’s important."

"There are so many things that are attractive in Diamondhead- we have so much affordable service here- and part of that is b/c of the retirement community. Because the “gray hairs” come here and they retire early and they think they want to play golf, cards, and chill out, and then they discover, “I still want to work a little bit!” So we have this wonderful group of people who are available to provide services to the community – I tell people all the time, you don’t have to buy a townhouse or a condo in order to have ease of lifestyle… b/c if you come here to buy a home, I could give you a list of people who could mow your yard, paint your house, fix your roof, whatever you want done, at a reasonable rate. There’s so much here that’s available-a natural, affordable lifestyle…."

"The young families here really have an advantage because we’re such a small community- only 1500-1700 population- and we all know each other’s children. They can walk back and forth to the playground, nature trails, swimming pools, basketball courts, tennis courts, etc. We have an excellent police force- our police force has cameras up high and down low- we know who’s coming and going at all times- and I just wanted to add that part b/c I think that’s important.

"A lot of our retiree’s are coming from places they are scared of… That gate to them represents so much peace of mind and security- they feel like it’s safe for them to go out in the evening and walk- they don’t have to lock the house when they go out in the yard to work in the garden. And in addition to our gate, we have full time patrol men- there is a patrol going on during the day and night- these are our people- hired by our PA- that live here- and it’s an incredible since of comfort..."

"We retired 17 years ago – been in Diamondhead 15 years- and probably a couple of times a year we ask ourselves “Is there any place we’d rather be?”- and the answer is still no. We love to go to Destin, FL, Gulf Shores, AL, spend time in New Hampshire- but it’s always back here. I think one of the main draws for us is that we love the moderate 4 season’s climate. I don’t want to live in constant heat or cold all year round. We love the lakes here- the fishing part of it- Hot Springs has major fishing tournaments in just the last few weeks, Lake Ouachita, Lake Hamilton, Lake Catherine- it’s just a big attraction. We also own an RV and do a fair amount of traveling to see our kids and the centralized location here is a big part of it too… You can get to a lot of places without having to drive for days and days. We just love the area, love the climate, would never leave…

We moved here recently from another community and one of the things we loved was the security. Gated communities offer community security not only for just us seniors but our children and grandchildren. Diamondhead is also in an excellent location- we came from West Tennessee, but for our children it’s about even travel for all of them. It’s easy access, we’re 10 minutes from a major interstate, good highways, if we want to go to the city we can go to Little Rock- there’s something here for everybody.
The other thing is the cost of living… we do a lot of shopping at Walmart- and we found that the Walmart here has much lower prices than the Walmart in the community we just left! The cost of living is a very important factor for us and for other seniors - we’ve researched other areas in the US and taxes are really favorable here…

"I guess it’s understood that we are on Lake Catherine and a lot of our residents are here b/c of the lake… That’s why we’re here, my wife was determined we were going to retire on a lake- and here we found lakefront property we could afford that you just can’t find on other lakes.
THEN, I got into the golf, and we have a very fine 18-hole golf course- it’s just as good a golf course you can find anywhere in Arkansas. And not only that, but we’re bordered by a very large state park- with horseback riding, camping, nature trails... I had some friends visiting me one time and stayed at the state park and camped instead of staying with me!"

"One of the things I tell people when they come here- if you are social there are many many things for you to do- there are card clubs, the Lyon’s club, the quilters, the book clubs, we have an incredible church that’s non-denominational just outside our gate- and that church provides all kinds of things for people to be associated with. If you are a private person, and you prefer not to be social, you can live here and NOT participate, but if you’re looking for a rich involvement kind of lifestyle, it’s here for you. I always say to widows and single men that are looking to come here- you do not have to have a partner to participate here. If you’re a bridge player, you can go to bridge night and they will have a place for you to play- you don’t have to come as a couple. A dance or party- you are comfortable going single. This community reaches out and pulls you in… You are immediately absorbed into this community if you want to be- an instant friendship. The minute you move here people will call on you, invite you to go places- but if you choose to be a private person, you can have that lifestyle here too."

"I lived in Atlanta and Dallas for 30plus years- which both have great big airports that take forever to get there. I can leave my house in DH and be at the LR airport in less than an hour. Convenient from that standpoint, we don’t even have to go to Little Rock to go to Sam’s anymore- we have one right here in town. We’ve moved up-town. :)
And while Hot Springs offers a lot of restaurants and stuff, but if you want the high end opera, theater, etc little rock is not but 40 minutes away. You’ve got everything you could possibly want here- nature, comradely- but then so close you’ve got the entertainment and big city life if that’s what you want. We have deer walking through our yards!"
